Embodied AI

AI that perceives and acts through a physical or simulated body.

Definition

Embodied AI is artificial intelligence that senses and acts through a body — a robot arm, a mobile manipulator, or a humanoid — rather than working on static text or images. It has to close the loop from first-person observation to motor action in the real world.

01

Why it matters

Embodied systems fail on distribution shift the moment their camera sees something training never showed. The bottleneck is rarely model size; it is training data that matches the agent’s own sensors, viewpoint and failure modes.

02

How Firsthand handles it

Firsthand builds datasets to a named skill spec so embodied-AI teams get the environments, conditions and manipulation signals their policy will actually meet, with a buyer-owned commercial license.
