Anonymization
Definition
Anonymization is the process of altering data so an individual can no longer be identified from it by any reasonably likely means. For video that means irreversibly removing faces, licence plates, legible screens, and identifying speech. Because it is irreversible, anonymized data falls outside privacy regimes like GDPR — unlike reversible pseudonymization, which stays in scope.

Why it matters
The distinction from pseudonymization is reversibility. A blur you can toggle off, or an un-blurred master kept alongside, is still personal data. Only irreversible redaction with the source controlled takes footage out of scope, which is why how the blur is applied matters as much as that it was applied.
