Definition
A data card is a structured record shipped with a dataset describing how it was collected, the consent basis, jurisdictions of capture, the license, and known limitations. It makes a dataset auditable rather than a black box of files.

Why it matters
Provenance is now a procurement and compliance requirement, not a nicety. A data card is what lets a buyer’s legal and ML teams sign off on training data with confidence.
